America di notte / L’Amérique la nuit (America by Night)

Direction: Giuseppe Maria Scotese

The Italian-French film obtains authorization for public screening with a viewing prohibition for minors under the age of 16 and with the elimination of some scenes. This decision is confirmed by the Appeal Committee, and some further cuts are made. The Public Prosecutor of Pavia accuses the director and the producer of being offensive to modesty and confiscates the film. The production company Ital Caribe Cinematografica presents a new version that is authorized for public screening with some cuts and with a viewing prohibition for minors under the age of 16. The third version of the film, presented in 2002 with further modifications, is declared suitable for all viewers. Some sources also mention the name of Carlos Alberto de Souza Barros, together with that of Scotese, as director of the film. In the attached video you can see the film cuts, which are preserved at the Cineteca Nazionale (Rome).
