IThe second post-war years are considered the golden period of Italian cinema. International successes and the economic relaunch of the sector were made possible thanks to the provisions of the 1949 Law (better known as the “Andreotti Law” from the name of the politician who promoted it). Nonetheless, the future Prime Minister was strongly criticized for the strictness of censoring practices. Therefore, preventive censorship became the most powerful as well as the less visible weapon of the Directorate-General for Film.
